Windy, but nice, getting the production trailer ready for tomorrow's shoot at the Kauffman Center. We're in the Muriel Kauffman Theater this time, first time there. The show is "Meet the Past". It's a series of shows in which we interview famous historical figures.
The photo today is another shot of the KCTV tower:

Seems awfully early in the session for that, 'course it's been spring for most the winter, so why not? Here are some words to live by from the Cancer Survivors Memorial on the Plaza:

Sunday, fun day
In the 60's, wonderful! Went to Emporia, stopped by Phoenix Herb on the way home for some teas. Up 43rd in the art school district were these bike racks shaped like giant bike locks. Cool looking:

What a game! KU survives, K-State doesn't. Missouri goes down to KU. Wished K-State could have wooped Iowa State. League play is winding down, headed for the March Madness. Gonna miss it when it's gone. Here the photo:

Back to the Station
Even on a nice day, Union Station is still a great place to get some good photos. Lots of folks there today. Once again, I had trouble deciding which photo to use, I think I'll go with the clock photo. What a great thing, that they were able to restore the clock with the station, after decades of "I'll meet you under the clock", a saying synonymous with Kansas City. So, the photo:

Well, the cool clouds of yesterday brought in the rain and the fog, so I found some lights in the fog to take a shot of. Not the best shot, but it's kinda cheery.

Valentine's Day
Jan and I had a nice meal at Bolings in the market. Nice to see it busy, we're usually about the only ones in there. Caught this shot earlier from midtown looking north. Nice view. The clouds are cool.

Trying to watch the Kansas vs Kstate game. Time Warner lost the ESPN feed just as the game was starting! I'm listening to it on the CBS website. What a rip! Well, it's Valentine's Eve, here's the photo of the day:

Toe the Line
Swung back to midtown on my way home this afternoon. I didn't get a chance to get up on the railroad bridge between Union Station and The Freight House yesterday. One lone man was standing there, he seemed to be waiting for a train to pass under the bridge. His solitary figure and all the bright lines and dark shadows suggested overwhelming desperation....... or maybe not. See what you think.

Saturday, day 42
Well, I'm roaming the Crossroad district today. Here's some art I ran across. I think it is a tape worm (not to insult the artist), so that's what I'm calling it.Huh, tape worm, right?!

Finally Friday...
Nice sunset tonight, but darn cold. Wind cut right thru' you. This is the walkway to "Old Kansas Town" Archeology site, looking back toward downtown, the blue is from the cold, LOL:

365 day 39
Wow, only 327 days left in this year. Winter better hurry up and get over, I'm running out of ideas. I need flowers and leafy trees and running water and thunder and lightning and animals cavorting and children playing (or is it animals playing and children cavorting?). Anyway here's what I came up with today:
I know, it's the wave again, but this one is in the morning.

You Looking at Me?!
Went to Emporia today, drove home on old Hwy 50. Not much traffic, hoped to get some wildlife photos. Not much out today, although it was beautiful. Some hawks, a feral cat, geese. But there was a couple of llamas in a field that didn't mind me getting close to them, except they got upset with each other. So here is the friendlier of the two:

Well, it had to end sometime, rain and wind, but no snow! OK, I can deal with it. Took a couple of pictures today, one of my croton and one of the stump of huge tree they had cut down just days ago in Union Cemetery. I think I like the stump better:

What a beau-u-utiful day!
Incredible weather for the 1st of February. Could have been April or May. Didn't get out much. Here's the shot:
Thought about the shot last night after the visit to Union Station yesterday, stopped back by on lunch. Thought sepia was definitely the way to go.

Heh, heh. Couldn't pass up this shot. He's gonna attack, he's not, he's gonna, he's not. Which is it? Check the second picture for the context. Here we go:
Here's the second:
Don't know why this rhino statue was sitting outside Union Station next to a dumpster, but it was a interesting photo. What's your hypothesis?
I hope they're not throwing it in the dumpster, I can sure find a place for it.

Finally Friday!
Finally the week is done. Gonna enjoy the weekend. Went to Grunauer's for dinner based on the Check, Please! episode featuring them. I'm sorry to say we were disappointed. My Schweinebraten was good, but my wife's daily "special" (a stuffed pork roast) was so fatty as to be inedible. They were "gracious" enough to knock $5 off the tab! I left a business card and a note. Oh, well, enough bitching. Swung by Kauffman
center on the way home, so the picture of the day:
The red glow on the sign was provided by the brake lights of a passing car.

Fossils on the Plaza?
So, once again, wandering about the Plaza, how can you go wrong? Got some good shots of Brush Creek and the fountains, but the photo of the day was something I noticed on the way back to the truck. One of the large boulders lining the walkway from the boulevard to the creek was loaded with fossils of marine life: tube-worms, bivalves, gastopods, etc. So, I thought, rather than the usual Plaza picts, this is alittle unusual:

Back to 18th and Vine, part Deux
At Arthur Bryant's, getting a beef and pork combo this evening. Swung down to 18th and Vine to get a photo. Here is the Swing Shop at night, pretty dead for a Tuesday night. The main room on Arthur Bryant's was full though! Must have been the Google coupon!

Stay Between The Lines!
Visited the south end of Bartle Hall, some really neat art work. This is the rear of two heads, one with features and one without. I really like this view, lines going everywhere. Did this in HDR.

Went down to OP today after Emporia this AM. Came by this waterfall at Vincent Associates, 103 and Metcalf. Liked the waterfall, with the ice on a 60 degree day. What's up with 60 degrees on January 22nd anyway? And tonight, lightning and hail! Weird weather. Cool waterfall though:

Could bearly stay warm today!
Brrrrrrrr! It was cold today. Decided to stay in, so a still life. This bear (created by my mom and dad) has been thru' fire, flood and about 25 years of love, moves and storage. So, he is the star of the day.
(I think we named him Smoky after the fire)

Couldn't think of anywhere to go, to busy at lunch. Went to Aldi after work, really close to A. Zahner Company Architectural Firm's building in Kansas City, MO. It was sunset, so the light was great. I like this one the best:

Drove thru' the old Hyde Park neighborhood on my lunch hour today, beautiful old homes. Saw this sculpture from Harrison Parkway and stopped to see it. Liked it, took a photo of it. Don't know the name of it, couldn't find anything on it. I named it "Fatal Decision". Here it is:

Cruising down Linwood Blvd!
I have always admired the Scottish Rites Temple at Linwood and the Paseo. It is a magnificent building and I understand you can get a tour. I'm going to do that one of these days. There is also a really cool art deco traffic light built in the 1930's (designed by Edward Buehler Deck) in the center of the intersection. I took one of a city bus going by and of a fire truck. The bus one shows the building and the traffic light, but the fire truck is cooler looking. I think I will post both!

Catch of the Day!
Stopped by Bell Street D'Bronx to pick up a large D'Bronx special and as I was waiting they got an order for a Party size Special from two of the city's finest. I stayed around to watch him "throw" it. Always amazes me that they are able to spin that big of a disc of dough. Well, here is the 365 day 16:
Enjoy! And support your local pizza shops.

Wandering the City
"I'm gonna be standing on the corner, 12th Street and Vine, with my Kansas City baby and a bottle of Kansas City wine".
Couldn't decided which one to post today. The 365 (366) rules (I am making them up as I go) only say you have to post a photo that you took that day, it doesn't say you can't post two! In my wanderings (before the games came on), I took several that I like and I'm going to post a couple. First one goes with the song:
Now the second one is cool in a weird sort of way. "Descent of Civilization (Bison Memorial)"by Marc Swanson is a bronze sculpture of a buffalo skeleton. Pretty novel, having it in Quality Hill, where, I suppose, buffalo did roam back in the day. Here's my favorite of the ones I shot:
Kinda menacing, isn't he. Check back tomorrow, to see what I can come up with then.
